What lies beneath

Sarah Simblet  teaches drawing, writes books and is an exhibiting artist. I came in contact with her work through Anatomy for the artist, a valuable resource for its written descriptions of the inner workings of the body, its beautiful photographs of instructive models and Simblets’ sketches that give a clear point of reference.

>>She’s also been featured in the documentary The Secret of Drawing, commendable for its  modern way of looking at the desire and ability to draw. I find her work refreshing for its lack of boastfulness, not championing her skill, but creating a composition which entices the viewer, even though some would say it’s rather macabre. But even this is elegantly dealt with through discretion and suggestion.
